2010 award winners
Each year, Project Alex awards a graduating high school senior and middle school student(s) with the Free Spirit Awards.
This year, we renamed our middle school award to The Joanne Senier-LaBarre Free Spirit Award.
These awards go to the students who have had to “work” at getting good grades
in school. For the high school award, we look for students who academics do not come easily, but are still planning on going to college.
We ask that the submissions be a creative way to express a message on scholastics and/or safety. Winners are chosen for their originality and creativity.

"There wasn't Enough Time"
I forgot to stop
Forgot to look,
There was no time,
That's all it took,
I couldn't see you,
In my mind,
I couldn't save your life.
I should have been more safe,
Now I remember yesterday,
For goodness sake,
You could have watched out,
Taken a different route,
To save yourself.
I forgot to stop
Forgot to look,
There was no time,
That's all it took,
I couldn't see you,
In my mind,
I couldn't save your life.
Watch out for cars,
You don't want those scars ... to stay,
Anyway, cuz you wana go far,
Wana see the stars again,
Don't fall and ....
Get covered in the dirt.
I forgot to stop
Forgot to look,
There was no time,
That's all it took,
I couldn't see you,
In my mind,
I couldn't save your life.
When you looked into his eyes,
His tears made you cry,
You took a deep breath and sighed,
Because you couldn't save his life,
There just wasn't enough time,
To say ....
Goodbye.
